After a season full of ups and downs and marked by her strong rivalry with fellow diva Mariah Carey, Minaj is hanging up her judge robes and stepping off American Idol. It’s not a dramatic departure however as apparently she only planned to do one season from the start, but she’s not going to exit the show alone as the eternal Randy Jackson has finally decided to pull the plug an depart from the show:
“Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on ‘American Idol’ I have decided it is time to leave after this season, I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.”
As if that weren’t enough, chances are Mariah Carey isn’t going to be seeking to keep her seat for the next season, leaving only Keith Urban, who seems to be the only one enthusiastic to return for the 13th season despite declining ratings:
“I joined an ensemble like this in the same way I joined a band,” Urban, 45, told reporters of sitting alongside Jackson and dueling divas Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. “I like being in a team and I felt that immediately, with host Ryan Seacrest and Randy, particularly.”
Before speculation can begin for the new judges, it remains to be seen whether Kree Harrison or Candice Glover will be crowned as the victor of the twelfth season.
