Carrie Fisher Is Back As Princess Leia- But It Wasn’t Easy

carrie2When Fisher was originally hired by George Lucas in 1977 to work on his new film Star Wars, she was told that she would get the part, but only if she lost 10 pounds.

Fisher remembers the event well and with disdain as she says, “weight and appearance are the only things that matter.” The actress added, “That is so messed up, They might as well say get younger, because that’s how easy it is.”

Fast forward to 2013 when she was told that she would be returning as Princess Leia but now she had to lose 35 pounds. How did she do it?

“I did it the same way everybody has to…; don’t eat and exercise more! There is no other way to do it,” the 59 year old actress says.

“We treat beauty like an accomplishment and that is insane,” she said. “Everyone in LA says, ‘Oh you look good,’ and you listen for them to say you’ve lost weight. It’s never ‘How are you?’ or ‘You seem happy!’” The sad reality of acting is just that…;skin deep. But we’re excited to see her back on the big screen in two weeks!
