I’m Not Sure What This Instrument Is…But This Dude Can Shred It

In case your home is in a large city, chances are that you have seen a street performer using a drum at his feet as well as a harmonica in his mouth. And while that looks like some pretty heroic multitasking, it is nothing compared to what this man may do.

The instrument he is playing is an American Fotoplayer. Mainly used between the years of 1925 and 1912, live scoring for silent films and it had been created specifically to produce sound effects.

With a set of foot pedals, organs, whistles, drums, and bells, this man totally shreds at making wackadoo pursuit music you could hear in a Looney Tunes brief.

American FotoplayerWe found an instrument that was interesting in the US – an American Fotoplayer on tour! Should we take it with us to our next performances in Seattle, Portland, L.A. and San Francisco?

Sadly for the Fotoplayer company, sound films made them pretty much out-of-date. Itis a rare treat to see one really played, as you will find now fewer than 50 that have lived — just 12 of which are really playable!
